The ensemble Tammurriata is passionately dedicated to the performance of early music in novel, exciting ways. The five young musicians from Canada, Spain, Switzerland, and Venezuela met in Freiburg im Breisgau, Germany, during their respective music studies.
Alessandra Riudalbas Wickers (recorder), Lara Morger (mezzo-soprano), David Neuhaus (cello), David Henkelman (harpsichord), and David Auli Morales (percussion) experiment with virtuosity and elan in their quest to develop new ways of presenting early music from the middle ages to the Baroque in an historically-informed way. Their inquisitiveness also leads them to draw connections between disparate genres such as folk and contemporary music.
Since their concert debut in Freiburg im Breisgau in 2018, Tammurriata has performed in the Heiliggeistkirche in Heidelberg, in the Maison de l’Amérique Latine de Strasbourg, France, as well as in Sarnen and Bern in Switzerland. In Summer 2019 the ensemble was invited to perform as part of the Concerto Mobile series at the Early Music Festival in Innsbruck, Austria. A concert tour in 2021 through Catalonia is planned with their latest programme, Musica Panamericana, in which the ensemble embarks on a musical journey from Europe to the Americas, thus blurring the boundaries between classical, folk, and contemporary music in the process.
